I spent a wonderful weekend hanging out with my sister writers at the
New Jersey Romance Writers' conference in Iselin, New Jersey. Since a
picture's worth a thousand words (I'm a writer so I should bite my tongue,
right?), I thought I'd share a few of my snapshots with you.
 |
No one said writers were mature! Here's the friendly
group from the Bucks County Romance Writers. Sally Stotter and Ann
Lawrence are putting bunny ears on fellow authors Donna Birdsell and
Joy Nash. We were dining at a fabulous Portuguese restaurant Donna
knew from the days when she lived nearby. |
 |
Two great authors: Mary Jo Putney and Shirley Hailstock.
They were visiting with booksellers at the first annual Booksellers'
Luncheon on Sunday of the conference. It was a fabulous event with
great food, great conversation (about books, of course!) and great
folks. Any booksellers who'd like to be invited next year, just send
me an email at nancy@nancyherkness.com
and I'll put you on the mailing list. |
 |
Here's the table Liddy Midnight and I sponsored at the
Booksellers' Luncheon. We had a delightful group: author Janet Mullany,
Ellora's Cave editor Heather Osborn, author Liddy, and booksellers
Diane Reinheimer (Borders) and Elizabeth Hoffman (Newtown Bookshop).
I was taking the photo so you'll have to imagine me next to Elizabeth. |
 |
Authors Roni Denholtz and Lois Winston (her first book
comes out in April--wahoo!) are standing in front of my great artistic
endeavor, the "Local Color" table. See that amazing poster
behind them? I made that with my own two hands; all those school projects
with my kids finally paid off. What? You can't tell what it is! It's
a map of NJ, NY and PA with the 32 books written by NJRW authors set
in those areas. |
 |
That's me between two of my favorite local booksellers
from Footnotes in Clifton, NJ: Maggie Price and Debbie Scassera. They
are the nicest ladies you'll ever meet and they really know and love
romance. |
 |
That's my buddy Michelle Cunnah in front of her artistic
endeavor, the Chick Lit table. Michelle moved from Rutherford where
I got to see her all the time to Rotterdam (yes, the Netherlands!)
so I really miss her. We had lunch together and caught up on everything
from writing through house-hunting to outlet shopping (her addiction).
Her daughter is in college here in NJ so I hope to see her more frequently
in the future. |
 |
Authors Ann Lawrence and Madeline Hunter at the Booksellers'
Luncheon. Madeline writes the greatest, most interesting emails on
my writers' loops. And Ann makes great bunny ears. |
 |
Authors Beth Ciotta and Mary Stella in front of the
Medallion Press table which they decorated. Beth is a talented singer/dancer/
actress in Atlantic City and Mary rescues dolphins in the Florida
Keys. Pretty cool! |
 |
Paranormal author (and high-powered lawyer) Caridad
Piniero in front of her spooky (but educational!) display. |
 |
Authors Eloisa James, Dee Davis and Kathleen O'Reilly.
These ladies did a stellar job of organizing the Booksellers' Luncheon.
|
 |
Make new friends but keep the old: I met Liz Maverick
for the first time at this conference when I attended her fabulous
workshop "Book of your smarts". Terri Brisbin was one of
the wonderful people who welcomed me to NJRW way back before I had
published my first book. |
 |
Authors Diane Perkins, Susan Stevenson, Mary Lou Frank, and Joy
Nash. Susan and Mary Lou are the talented writing team who pen books
as Elizabeth Keys and Emily Baker.
|
 |
That's Caridad Pineiro again (she gets around!) with
author Barbara Gale, another new friend. Barbara and I met for the
first time at the NYC Romance Writers' fabulous Golden Apple Awards
party |
